Meet Bailey
I’m Bailey, a democratic socialist, renter, and community organizer.
I was born as the youngest into a poverty-stricken family, living in a van off the side of the road with 8 other siblings. After Child Protective Services intervened, I spent the next years of my life living in a household where I felt ignored, and that’s when I promised myself that I wouldn’t be silent and would always be a voice for the people.
Growing wasn’t always easy, but it did teach me a lot. I learned how poorly our systems treat our elderly, disabled, and veterans, and just expect them to go along with it. It was heartbreaking watching my mother cry because she couldn’t afford the hospital bill, or my father’s PTSD was made worse by the lack of attention from our federal government. I learned early on in my life that the marginalized people of the world are often forgotten about and that we deserve to be heard, too.
That’s why I’m running. I got tired of watching my friends, family, and coworkers sacrifice so much and get so little in return. We deserve higher wages, we deserve strong union-backed jobs, and affordable homes we can live in for the rest of our lives. Mount Pleasant can have great things, but it requires politicians who are willing to put in the effort and fight for them. I promise to be that politician.
Whether I’m elected or not, I will keep going to our Commission meetings and advocating loudly for the Tenants Rights Committee. I will keep going to Lansing and put pressure on our state legislators to build more affordable homes and direct resources towards Mount Pleasant. I will continue to use my platform to promote candidates who also want to see our community succeed.
I promise that I will never stop fighting for you and that I will lead with transparency. I have lived my life on the value of being as open as I can be with people, and I won’t stray from that now.
This campaign’s platform is simple: Higher Wages, Better Jobs, Affordable Homes. This city can accomplish great things when there are leaders in charge who are willing to do the work. I promise every day to show up and to be the leader you deserve.
